The Fauntleroy Community Service Agency (FCSA) is a nonprofit organization. We believe that diversity drives innovation, equity fosters growth, and inclusion builds stronger communities. We are committed to creating a community and culture where every individual feels valued, respected, and celebrated. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is reflected in our hiring practices, professional development opportunities, community engagement, and the way we operate this organization over nearly 50 years.

Our History

  • 1977    Fauntleroy Community Service Agency (FCSA) is formed in April by Dr. John (Jack) Pierce. 

  • 1978    Director Lynn Davis is hired; Fauntleroy Day Care Center opens its doors in September in the Fauntleroy Church. 

  • 1980    Fauntleroy Day Care Center forms Advisory Board.  Kim Seaman (Sheridan) assumes Director position.

  • 1981    Seattle Schools close 14 schools, including Fauntleroy Elementary

  • 1981    Fauntleroy Day Care Center moves into the school and changes its name to Fauntleroy Children's Center (FCC).

  • 1983    Infant care and Pre-Kindergarten care added to program.

  • 1985    FCC expands capacity from 49 to 99 children, adding a Before & After School Enrichment Program.

  • 1987    First “annual” spaghetti dinner and auction to raise funds for the nonprofit. 

  • 1987    FCC is the 1st center in West Seattle to earn national accreditation from NAEYC.

  • 1992    Mayor Norm Rice holds press conference at FCC to acknowledge the anti- bias/multi-cultural curriculum.

  • 1993    First year of “Salmon in the Classroom”, now an annual tradition.

  • 1998    FCSA celebrates it's 20th year.

  • 2003    Sandi Fukumoto assumes Presidency of the FCSA Board of Directors

  • 2004    FCC receives its 1st van (8 passenger) from the King County Council and Dow Constantine for it's after care program. 

  • 2006    Kevin Wooley assumes Presidency of the FCSA Board of Directors. 

  • 2007    Seattle School District announces intent to sell Fauntleroy School Building.

  • 2010    FCSA closes on the purchase of the school building, parking and over half of the lower playground with city and state funds!

  • 2012    FCSA begins renovations, roof replacement and related seismic upgrades.

  • 2014    Installation of 'Rain Wise' Garden completed with featured salmon art by Shawn Bennett. Red roof replacement completed. 

  • 2016    Kirsty Grainger (Fauntleroy School Alumnus) assumes Presidency of the FCSA Board of Directors.

  • 2017    Fauntleroy Schoolhouse Centennial Celebration & Installation of New Flagpole donated by the Gamrath Family!

  • 2020    FCC renews accreditation with 92-100% ratings, and 100% in 7 of the 10 standard.

  • 2020    FCC holds first on-line auction during COVID-19 to support staff wages raising the highest amount ever in its history ($65,000). 

  • 2021    Kim Sheridan, FCC Director retires after 42 years of service, New Executive Director Cara Anderson-Ahrens hired.

  • 2022    Long-time tenant, Tuxedo's and Tennis Shoes wins Seattle Brides Best Caterer award

  • 2022    The Hall at Fauntleroy is finalist for Seattle Brides Best Historic Venue.

  • 2023   Martha Perez-Flores hired as new FCSA/FCC Executive Director. 

  • 2024  Adrienne Krefft assumes Presidency of the FCSA Board of Directors.

  • 2025   Fauntleroy Schoolhouse main hallway re-painting and re-carpeting complete. New website launched.
